Jose L Piedra cetros

A few months ago, I gave a member of my Dutch board a few cigars to review and he gave me a few, including this Jose L Piedra petit cetros. I had never smoked this one, I did however smoke a lot of petit cazadores back in the day before the smoke ban, it was my “take to the pub and smoke without paying too much attention to the cigar” stick. The cetros is a handmade shortfiller that measures 5×38.

The wrapper is quite dark, for a Cuban cigar that is, and quite wrinkly. The band is simple and I smell a mild barnyard smell. The construction feels good. The predraw is tight and I taste spicy tobacco.

I taste leather and some pepper. After a quarter of an inch also taste some wood. After an inch I taste some cheap chocolate too.

The flavors don’t develop or change until I taste some herbs halfway. Near the end I even taste some nuts and something sweet.

The smoke time of this cigar is an hour. The draw is a bit tight. I got a decent volume of medium thick smoke. The pepper and salt colored ash is coarse and not firm. This cigar is medium bodied and medium flavored.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, I wasn’t impressed

José L Piedra petit cazadores

After reading positive reviews of the new Jose L Piedra petit cazadores, a hand made Cuban shortfiller of 105mm and ring 43, I decided to buy a bundle. I don’t know if they are available as singles, but the price is so low (25 euro for a bundle of 25) that buying a bundle isn’t a great risk. The wrapper is oily with lots and lots of veins, not a real looker, and the cigar has a light manure smell.

The first flavor that comes to mind is sweet full bodied leather, but the sweetness disappears soon and the leather also becomes milder. This cigar has a strong full bodied start but grows into a mild bodied cigar pretty soon. There is not a lot of progress on the flavors, the cigar is pretty consistent.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, it’s a nice snack cigar for a small price.
