Montecristo white label rothschild

This 5 x 52 Rothschild comes in a cellophane wrapper and once released I see a nice looking cigar with a light but smooth wrapper which doesn’t contain a lot of veins. Due to the color of the wrapper I think it’s a shade grown wrapper. The aroma is peppery with some wood and hints of a barnyard. The cigar feels well constructed although the fire side is a bit softer than the rest of the cigar. The predraw is on the easy side and leaves me with a light flavor of raisin on the lips.

I could taste some cedar wood, not bad but I had better. My mouth goes dry due to the texture of the smoke. After an inch the texture becomes a bit buttery but flavorwise it’s still the same cedar, although the flavor becomes a bit more appealing to me after 1/3rd. The flavor doesn’t change at all, until I get close to the turning point, where I discovered some nut flavors.

The amount of smoke is on the low side, but because of the firm ashes the smoke & ash still gets a 7 out of 10. The draw is on the light side of ok and the burn is fine. Medium to mild bodied, mild flavored.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, I don’t care much for this cigar.

Perdomo Habano corojo robusto

This 5 x 52 Perdomo Habano with the Nicaraguan binder and filler has a dark Corojo wrapper with quite a lot of veins. The construction feels good; I could not detect any soft spots. The cigar band is quite big for a cigar this size and the foot is protected by another small band which says “Corojo”. The cigar is packed in cellophane. Once released from the cellophane I could smell a barnyard odor coming from the cigar. When I cut the cigar with my palio, the wrapper cracked. Fortunately I could still smoke the cigar without having to deal with sucking in false air. The predraw was just fine and left me with a flavor of raisin on the lips.

Lighting this cigar with my blazer torch was quite hard, harder than most cigars. The first puffs leave a slightly bitter coffee flavor on my palate and just after a few puffs I could taste some light pepper too. After half an inch the coffee fades away, but the bitterness stays combined with some wood. The bitterness fades away slowly and I could also discover some chocolate.

The coffee makes a comeback at about a third of the cigar until I reach the middle of the cigar. There I noticed that the flavors grew stronger and the smoke gets a bit thicker. The coffee disappears again and the woody flavors are back. The structure of the smoke is a bit creamy. The last third brings me some chocolate as an extra flavor next to the wood, and close to the turning point there is some noticeable black pepper too.

The burn was straight as an arrow in the first part, but then it got pretty crooked to the point where I had to correct. The smoke was medium to thin in the beginning but became fuller towards the end. At the 2/3rd point the wrapper cracked completely open. I consider this a mild to medium bodied cigar with a mild to medium strong flavor palate.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, I did like the last part of the cigar, but the road to the good part goes through too much harshness to make this a recurring smoke.

Macanudo petit corona tubo

This small 5 inch ring 38 cigar is made out of Dominican & Mexican filler, Mexican binder and a Connecticut shade wrapper. And boy, that wrapper is ugly, way too many veins. The predraw on this cigar is fine and it has an aroma of hay. It comes in a nice tube.

I taste a sweet wood flavor and it turns into musty leather pretty quick, not very pleasant. After little over an inch I can taste some chocolate and herbs, both still musty. Midway the mustiness disappears and I discover a nutty flavor, but instead of the mustiness I now get a burning sensation on my tongue. At 2/3rd the burning sensation disappears and I get a nice nut flavor, very full.
090509macanudopetitcorona2
This small stick produces a lot of smoke and has a fine burn. The ash is firm and white. This cigar is mild bodied medium flavored.
090509macanudopetitcorona3
Would I buy this cigar again? No, the fantastic finish doesn’t make up for the bad start, and petit coronas aren’t my favorite size anyway.

Flor de Cano Selectos machine made

This selectos is machine made and has some other noticeable differences from the handmade one I reviewed yesterday. The wrapper is darker and has some stains and the cigar is wrapped in cellophane. The construction feels ok and the aroma is light and smells like a barnyard.
090505flordecanoselectosmachinemade1
I could taste toast and coffee but after 2 puffs it all goes away. Couple of puffs later I could taste some light leather and that is actually the only thing I can taste until half way where the cigar picks up in power and leaves a bit toasty flavor with a creamy chocolate on the background. The finale is herbs & spices, not a really nice flavor though.
090505flordecanoselectosmachinemade2
The draw is too loose, the ash is dark, the burn is ok but the amount of smoke is quite poor.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, the new handmade series are much better.

Flor de Cano Selectos handmade

I was at a B&M in the centre of Amsterdam to buy some cigars and the salesman showed me a 25 count dress box of handmade La Flor del Cano Selectos for a price which I could not refuse.

The wrapper isn’t very pretty; lots of veins on this 6 inch ring 44 tripa corta Cuban. The craw is a bit hard but the construction seems to be ok.
090504flordecanoselectoshandmade2
I could taste toast and after an inch a light leathery flavor. After an inch and a half it was nut with nut and nut and every now and then some leather. All pretty mild but flavorful.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, they are a steal for this price

Adipati

This cigar was given to me by the employee of a cigarshop I frequently visited in the past. It is a 8 ½ inch long Indonesian cigar and a bit conically shaped, ring 40 at the mouth end of the cigar and ring 44 at the fire end. The cigar I smoked had the print “especially blended and hand rolled for Massimo” printed on the golden cellophane.

The aroma of this cigar was very dry hay. The wrapper was quite dark and had lots of veins and had a silky feel to it. The construction felt good. The draw was a bit hard and the ash turned out to be white. This cigar didn’t produce a lot of smoke, probably due to the hard draw. The smoke felt cool, due to the length of the cigar. The aroma of the lit cigar was terrible, harsh.

I could taste dry leather, not comparable to the Cuban leather though and after an inch there was a bit of chocolate noticeable. Later on the cigar became a bit sweet and the chocolate disappeared. The texture of the smoke left a creamy feel in my mouth. The flavor is very consistent, not a lot of depth in this cigar.
090502adipati4
Would I buy this cigar again? No, even though it is reasonable priced
