El Titan de Bronze Redemption sun grown belicoso

In may 2009 I was in Miami with some friends and we stumbled onto El Titan de Bronze. We walked in and had a great time with Sandy, who owns the factory with her husband. I did know the brand as I reviewed the El Titan de Bronze Redemption sun grown robusto a couple of months before. Anyway, we smoked a few cigars, got some insights on cigar manufacturing and fast forward to November 2010. I was in Miami again, walked in, a year and a half later, 100lbs lighter and the first thing Sandy says “wow, you lost a lot of weight”. Incredible, she remembered me and recognized me even though I lost that much weight. Well, I bought a sampler of all their blends and vitolas and I am planning to review them all. This is the first, the 5×52 El Titan de Bronze Redemption sun grown belicoso.

The El Titan de Bronze sun grown belicoso is made from Nicaraguan filler and binder with an Ecuadorian sun grown habano wrapper, which is chocolate brown and has lots of veins. The construction feels good and I smell a strong barnyard smell. The predraw is fine and I taste raisin.

I taste a peppery earthy flavor. Black pepper is definitely the main flavor with some chocolate like sweetness on the background. Soon after that I also taste wood and a citrus like acidity. All these flavors come packed within the first quarter of an inch. After half an inch I taste more wood with some herbs and a bit of pepper. The aftertaste is a creamy chocolate flavor.

After a third I taste wood with herbs and on the background I taste a little bit of nuts and chocolate. The chocolate gains some strength, just like the nuts on the background. I keep tasting the herbs. After two thirds the pepper gains strength too. The nut flavor is a mixture of macadamia and hazelnuts with a little pecan. The nut mixture becomes the dominant flavor.

This cigar lasted me an hour and forty minutes, which is long for a 5 inch cigar. The draw is good, just like the burn. The smoke started out thin but got thicker along the way and the white ash is coarse but firm. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? Next time I’m in Miami I will get a few more
