Tatuaje Little Monsters Baby Face

In 2008 Tatuaje started with a yearly tradition, the monster series, to be release around Halloween. It all stated with the Frank named after Frankenstein, 2009 was the Drac after Dracula, then the face after leatherface from the Texas chainsaw massacre. 2011 honored the movie the wolf man and 2012 gave us the mummy. 2013 was the year of Jason Voorhees with the JV13, then came Jekyll to be followed by the Hyde.

In the mean time Tatuaje released a box of Tatuaje little monsters, miniature versions of the first 5 editions and the pudgy monsters, smaller versions of the monsters bit with the original ring gauge of the first 6 years and an added bonus of chucky and his bride. For the next few weeks I’ll be reviewing the little and pudgy monsters and some of the Tatuaje monsters that are left in my collection. I started last week with the little monsters in chronological order, so cigar three is the baby face.

This petit robusto stands out because of the band, or lack of band as you can see. The band is a piece of light colored tobacco that stands out to the dark wrapper. The foot is closed. The cigar has a nice barnyard smell, best smelling little monster so far. The cold draw is good and a little spicy.

A little bit of red pepper and dry leaves, this cigar tastes like autumn. I also taste spices, but all remind me of autumn. After half an inch there is also a caramel like sweetness.
After a third it’s still spices like nutmeg and cinnamon, still very autumn that fits the weather today. There’s also a little black pepper on the background with some lemon sest.
The caramel changes to refined sugar but very mild. The rest of the flavor remain the same.

The smoke is medium full and the silver gray ash is a bit flaky. The draw is flawless. The ash is firm. The smoke time of this short cigar was about 45 minutes,

Would I buy this cigar again? The little monsters are getting better, can’t wait for the next one.

Tatuaje Little Monster Lil Drac

In 2008 Tatuaje started with a yearly tradition, the monster series, to be release around Halloween. I started last week with the little monsters in chronological order, so after last weeks the Frank Jr. it is now time for Lil Drac.

The lil Drac is a small belicoso, medium dark mild shiny wrapper with a few thin veins. The black and red band might be the one I like most from the monster series. Beautiful triple cap but I feel a few weak spots in the construction. The cold draw is perfect, I taste dry tobacco with a mild minty flavor.
091816tatuajemonsterslildrac2
At the start I get a dry tobacco flavor with some mint, just like in the cold draw.  The mint disappears quickly and I taste dry flavors as in dry hay, grass and tobacco.
091816tatuajemonsterslildrac3
After a third it’s still a mixture of dry flavors but with some warm spices. The last third starts warn and mild bitter but not in a bad way. The bitterness disappears and I taste nutmeg.
091816tatuajemonsterslildrac4
I get a medium amount of smoke, medium to full, light colored. The ash is bright white. The burn is a bit crooked. The draw is flawless. The cigar lasted me little over an hour.

Would I buy this cigar again? I liked this better than the Frank Jr.

Tatuaje Little Monsters Frank Jr.

I’m starting with the little monsters in chronological order so today it’s the Frank Jr.

A nice dark corona with some tooth and veins, without a band it could easily been mistaken for a Padron stick. Construction feels good and I smell a little bit of hay. The pre draw is fine with a little harsh taste of good tobacco. Time to grab my trusted Ronson varaflame from the late 60’s and light this puppy up.

First flavored are sharp, herbal with the bitterness of dark chocolate but without the chocolate flavor and a bit soapy. This is nothing like I remember from the original Frank. The soapy flavor is dominant with some herbal and peppery flavors on the background.
091116tatuajemonsterfrankjr2
After a third the soap turns into spicy green herbs and mint, an improvement. The red pepper grows too, I can taste it on the tip of my tongue. In the aftertaste there is a mild dark chocolate taste. The cigar is very enjoyable now.

Halfway the pepper changes from red to wblack and the chocolate gets a bit stronger. Unfortunately there is a little hint of that soapy flavor on the background again. Near the end the cigar gets bitter.
091116tatuajemonsterfrankjr3
The draw is great and from the first moment I get a lot of thick white smoke. The ash is dark and flaky. It also breaks easily . The burn is straight, no complaints here. The smoke time was an hour.

Would I buy this cigar again? No. Even if it was possible still no because of the soapy flavor.

Tatuaje La Mission

I admit it, I’m a Tatuaje and L’Atelier fan, so I was very happy when Pete Johnson handed me this La Mission robusto when I met him at intertabac again.
090416lamission1
The cigar looks great, dark and evil with a nice pigtail and a beautiful detailed band. The cigar has a strong barnyard aroma. The construction feels good. The predraw is good, not much flavor though.
090416lamission2
I taste a unusual but pleasant nutmeg, cinnamon, spice mixture with some acidity and sweetness, I can’t describe it differently. After a few puffs there is also a pleasant bitterness. Not too exiting though, after almost an inch I taste the same.
090416lamission3
After a third the bitterness is the main flavor, like really dark chocolate. I also get some pepper, this is a very nice combination. Unfortunately halfway a burnt flavor joins the party as an uninvited guest. Slowly the pepper gains strength, the burnt flavor is gone. After two thirds I taste wood, pepper and some citrus, the pepper is the biggest flavor.
090416lamission4
The cigar produces a lot of smoke which is medium thick. The salt and pepper colored ash is firm. The draw is flawless. This medium to full bodied and full flavored cigar lasted me an hour and thirty minutes.

Would I buy this cigar again? I think I’ll stick with a Bon chausseur and once a year the tatuaje rc233
