Liga Privada Unico UF-13

This is an old review that somehow never got posted when it should have been uploaded.

I was in Miami one day and Pedro Gomez hooked me up with these, then still unreleased Liga Privada Unico UF13 cigars. The cigars look amazing with the dark wrapper, that shines from the oil, and the cute pigtail. I see a few veins.
ligaprivadauf131_zps131db653
I cut the cigar with my Xikar cutter and the cold draw was great, I taste some acidic flavors with wood.
ligaprivadauf132_zpsdcb58afa
Once lit I taste a full espresso flavor with a hint of wood and some pepper, but the wood disappears quickly. After a centimeter I taste wood again with some coffee and herbs. After an inch I taste more herbs and the cigar is nice and spicy. Halfway I taste more herbs and walnuts, I am loving this cigar. Near the end I taste wood again.
ligaprivadauf133_zpsacfee8bc
The smoke time is an hour and a half exactly with a lot of smoke, a great draw and light gray firm ash. I would say this is a full bodied and full flavored cigar.
ligaprivadauf134_zpse91b86f8
Would I buy this cigar again? I would love to but these never made it across the ocean.

Liga Privada Unico A

This is an old review that somehow never got posted when it should have been uploaded.

This is another Liga Privada Unico, but this one is not for sale, it’s a cigar that you can only get at Drew Estate events in boxes of 2. The cigar is 9 inch long with a 47 ring gauge and it’s a vitola that I like a lot.
ligaprivadaa1
The wrapper is dark, shiny and oily with a few thick veins and a nice little pigtail. The construction feels good and the cigar has a floral aroma to it. The cold draw is perfect.
ligaprivadaa
I taste earthy flavors, coffee and herbs and the flavors paid fantastic with the vanilla from the Zaya rum I’m drinking. I also taste some sweetness in the cigar after a centimeter but the herbal flavors are dominant, and the earthy flavors are there to support it. I taste a little pepper in the aftertaste.
ligaprivadaa3
After a third I taste herbs with a hint of pepper and a little floral flavors but halfway that changes to herbs, earthy flavors, pepper and leather. After two thirds some salted licorice joins the flavor party and I get a fresh aftertaste.
ligaprivadaa4
Even though this cigar is so long it only lasted me for two hours. The draw was great and like any Liga Privada the smoke was out of this world. The ash is dark, flaky and far from firm. I had some burn issues with this well balanced full bodied and full flavored cigar.
ligaprivadaa5
Would I buy this cigar again? I would love to, still have a few but only the Ilja edition.

Liga Privada T52 Flying Pig

This is an old review that somehow never got posted when it should have been uploaded.

When Drew Estate started their factory in Nicaragua most of the people in the industry said “these guys will make it when pigs fly” but they were wrong. But Jonathan and Marvin didn’t take it badly and as a joke they decided to create a cigar called Flying Pig when they achieved what they had in mind.
ligaprivada752flyingpig1
The first Flying Pig was the Liga Privada #9, that was a huge success so it wasn’t a surprise that the second release of the limited edition Flying Pig was one of the Liga Privada T52 blend. And that’s the one I’m reviewing.
ligaprivada752flyingpig2
The dark wrapper looks great and oily with a beautiful pigtail. The cold draw is amazing and I taste pepper, raisin and dry tobacco.
ligaprivada752flyingpig3
After lighting the cigar I taste earthy flavors with coffee and a hint of chocolate, after that the flavors change to pepper, herbs and that earthy flavor, the cigars is nice and spicy with a little bit of sweetness. Halfway I taste spicy herbs with a peppery aftertaste. The flavors change to wood with herbs and pepper towards the end.
ligaprivada752flyingpig4
The smoke time was an hour and fifteen minutes with a great draw, a lot of smoke and a good burn. The light colored ash is firm. I would call this cigar full bodied and full flavored

Liga Privada T52 660

I love Liga Privada, it doesn’t matter if it’s the #9, the T52 or the brand spankin’ new L40 blend is, I love them all. The Dutch distributer of Liga Privada was in Nicaragua a few weeks ago and brought me some unreleased cigars including a fresh rolled L40 lancero, a prototype Ratzilla/Dirty Rat and a La Reloba seleccion Mexico and this big fat Liga Privada 52 with the infamous 6×60 size. I have not heard of this cigar before, I can’t find any information online so I guess this is an unreleased cigar. It had a normal Liga Privada t52 band and was wrapped in cellophane, unlike the other prototypes, so I guess it will be commercially released soon.
110407ligaprivadat526601
The wrapper is nice, dark and very oily, like all Liga Privada T52 cigars I have smoked so far. I see one big vein. The cigar smells floral. The construction feels good. The predraw is fine and tastes like tobacco with some pepper and some floral flavors.
110407ligaprivadat526602
I taste a floral flavor with some pepper and soon some bitter chocolate. After half an inch I still taste the flowers but now with a dry and sweet chocolate. The flavors are flat and mellow and don’t develop a lot. After an inch and a half the chocolate grows a bit in strength.
110407ligaprivadat526603
Halfway I taste some wood and some floral flavors, the flavors are mild sweet and I taste a little bit of chocolate on the background. The flavors are mild to medium, even the herbs that I taste are mild to medium. After two thirds the cigar gets a bit more spicy.
110407ligaprivadat526604
This cigar lasted me for two hours. The draw was a bit easy and I got a medium smoke, both in volume as in thickness, but the smoke got thicker along the way. The salt & pepper colored ash is compact and firm. The burn is great. This cigar is medium bodied and medium flavored and way more boring and flat than any other Liga Privada I have ever smoked.

Would I buy this cigar again? No I stick to the

Liga Privada Ratzilla 7×44 prototype

The Dutch Drew Estate distributer visited Nicaragua a few weeks ago, with a few reporters and a Dutch tv host & cigar enthousiast. He visited Drew Estate and brought me a unreleased Liga Privada L40 lancero and this 7×44 cigar with a photocopied band “Dirty rat 7×44”. Now I know about the Dirty Rat release, I have a box of those, but they are 5×44. So I got in touch with Jonathan Drew and he told me that this Dirty Rat 7×44 is a prototype, it was one of a few prototypes for the Ratzilla, which will be released at the IPCPR this year. The 7×44 didn’t made the cut, they chose for a 6½x46 for the Ratzilla, but this cigar has the same blend.
110328ligaprivadadirtyrat7441
The cigar is a looker, the wrapper is dark, oily and shine with just one long thin vein and the cigar has a small pigtail. The construction feels good and I smell a floral smell, kind of soapy. The predraw is great and quite spicy, I taste a lot of pepper.
110328ligaprivadadirtyrat7442
I taste a smooth but full coffee with a mild bitter taste and a lot of pepper. After a quarter of an inch I taste spicy herbs, pepper and creamy chocolate. The chocolate slowly gains some strength with a peppery aftertaste. After an inch I taste some herbal wood with chocolate on the background. The cigar is pleasantly spicy without too much pepper. The chocolate flavor sticks on the palate and is dark.
110328ligaprivadadirtyrat7443
Halfway I taste more wood, the cigar is less spicy and I can’t taste pepper anymore. I still taste some chocolate and the flavors are sticky. A few puffs later I also taste some wood. After two thirds I even taste some nuts. The flavors become herbal again and the pepper returns. The black pepper grows in strength.
110328ligaprivadadirtyrat7444
This cigar lasted me for an hour and forty five minutes. The draw was great, just like the burn and the flavors were fantastic. The only disappointing part of this cigar was the burn, I had to keep correcting it. The ash is dark, frayed and medium firm. The cigar is full bodied and full flavored.
110328ligaprivadadirtyrat7445
Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, Drew Estate should release this cigar.

Liga Privada L40 lancero *pre-release*

I love Liga Privada, both the #9 and the T52 blends. Both made it into my personal top 25 of best cigars of 2010 and I would surprise me if Liga Privada didn’t make it in the top 25 of 2011 too. As a fan, I was thrilled when I heard the news that Drew Estate was working on more Liga Privada blends, one of them being the L40, which would come out with a lancero. My heart jumped when I got a text message from the Dutch distributer, who was in Nicaragua visiting some factories at the time, that he got me a fresh rolled L40 lancero.
110304ligaprivadal40lancero1
The cigar is a bit crooked, oval shaped and has no band, but I don’t care. The wrapper is dark, oily and wrinkled. The construction feels good and I smell straw and leather. The predraw is fine and reminds me of tobacco and green tea.
110304ligaprivadal40lancero2
I taste coffee and an earthy flavor with pepper and toast. After half an inch I taste dry herbs with some wood and chocolate. After an inch the chocolate becomes a bit stronger
110304ligaprivadal40lancero3
After a third the chocolate turns dark, flavor wise and stronger, just like I expect from a Liga Privada. Halfway I taste a nice dark chocolate with some herbs. The flavors just go on and on while the herbs slowly become the main flavor.
110304ligaprivadal40lancero4
This cigar comes five minutes short to be a two hour smoke. The draw and the burn are great. The smoke is plentiful and thick. The gray ash is firm. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied.

Liga Privada T52 toro

I love Liga Privada, I said that many times before and I will keep saying it as long as the cigars are this good. I smoked some T52’s in the recent past as they just became available on the Dutch market. I smoked the robusto and the belicoso. I have ordered a box of Dirty Rats and a box of Flying Pigs, those will be reviewed too once I receive them. I smoked the toro for a review today. The price tag of this cigar is € 11.00 in The Netherlands.
101224ligaprivaday52toro1
This 6 x 52 cigar looks great with its dark and oily wrapper. I see a few thin veins and smell a floral aroma. The construction feels good and the predraw is a bit tight, but not too tight to complain. I get a spicy flavor from the predraw.
101224ligaprivaday52toro2
I taste spicy coffee with earth, some chocolate and a mild pepper. The coffee disappears after half an inch. I taste spicy wood with earth and chocolate. The feeling in my mouth is dry. The wood slowly becomes the main flavor.
101224ligaprivaday52toro3
Halfway I get more chocolate, dark chocolate. After two thirds I taste more herbs and all flavors get stronger. Near the end I also taste white pepper.
101224ligaprivaday52toro4
This cigar is a slow burner due to the thick wrapper. This 6 inch cigar lasted me two hours and twenty five minutes. I got a good amount of smoke, which started out thin but got thicker along the way. The draw is great and the burn is good. The as is dark, frayed and not firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Liga Privada T52 belicoso

As you can see from my older Liga Privada reviews like the T52 robusto, #9belicoso oscuro, #9 robusto oscuro and the #9 Flying pig, I love Liga Privada and it would surprise me if they don’t make the Cigar Aficionado top 25 for 2010. The T52 blend recently became available on the Dutch market and this 6×52 belicoso has a € 12.00 price tag.
101215ligaprivadat52beli1
The wrapper is dark, oily and silky with a few long thin veins. The cigar has a mild smell of a barnyard and cedar. The construction feels good. The predraw is great and has a pepper flavor.
101215ligaprivadat52beli2
I taste a soft coffee flavor with earth, full flavored but smooth and soft with a mild sweetness that turns into dry cocoa after a quarter of an inch. After half an inch I taste some pepper in the aftertaste, but real mild.
101215ligaprivadat52beli3
After an inch the sweet chocolate becomes stronger with more earth and a little pepper in the aftertaste. That is the mixture of flavors that I keep tasting for a long time, the flavors don’t develop but I don’t mind because I love what I taste. Near the end I taste a more spicy mix of chocolate, a little bit of earth and cedar.
101215ligaprivadat52beli4
This cigar lasted me for a long long time, two hours and fifteen minutes. The silver gray ash is firm. The draw and burn are fantastic. I got a good amount of reasonable thick smoke. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Liga Privada T52 robusto

Ever since I smoked my first Liga Privada, the No. 9, I am in love with the brand. Heck, I’m wearing a Liga Privada cap while I am typing this review. I never had the t52 blend until a few weeks ago when I was in Florida for vacation. When I got back home I found out that the t52 is now available in The Netherlands and I picked up a robusto, which has a € 10.00 price here in The Netherlands.
101203ligaprivadat52robusto1
Although it is called robusto, it looks bigger and more badass than the standard 5×50 robustos, I don’t know why because the length is the same and it is only a bit thicker with the 52 rg. The wrapper is dark, almost black, oily and shiny. I see a few small veins. The band is simple yet clear and pretty. The construction feels good and I smell a barnyard smell with straw and wood. The predraw is fine and I taste straw, pepper and raisin.
101203ligaprivadat52robusto2
I taste a smooth coffee flavor, warm and without the bitterness I usually taste when a cigar starts with a full coffee flavor. I also taste some hay. After a quarter of an inch I taste an earthy flavor with a mild pepper and some chocolate sweetness with wood. The pepper is mild and only noticeable in the aftertaste. After half an inch I taste nuts and wood, with some pepper and a bit of an earty flavor. These are the flavors that I taste for a long time.
101203ligaprivadat52robusto3
The pepper disappears. The wood and nut flavors are balanced and complex. It is hard to describe the flavors, but what I taste is nice and unique. After two thirds I taste a sweet earthy flavor with a mild aftertaste of white pepper. The nut flavor is gone and I taste something that reminds me of carrots. I like it.
101203ligaprivadat52robusto4
I got a lot of thick white smoke. The draw is fantastic and the burn is good. The ash starts out dark but gets lighter along the way and it is quite firm. This full flavored and full bodied cigar has a smoke time of two hours.

Would I buy this cigar again? No doubt about it

Liga Privada #9 belicoso

What a single cigar can do. The Liga Privada changed my whole opinion on Drew Estate cigars. After smoking the Flying Pig and the Robusto oscuro, Liga Privada became one of my favorite brands and that while I would not touch anything made by Drew Estate before, due to their infused cigars which I don’t like at all. I decided that the Liga Privada #9 Belicoso oscuro deserved a review too, so I picked the last of my stash of 6×52 belicosos from my humidor, got myself a bottle of water, grabbed the palio and the blazer, sat down, cut the cigar and enjoyed.
101016ligaprivada9oscurotorpedo1
I just love the simple band. The wrapper is dark and oily, shiny and smooth and only has a few veins. The construction feels good and the predraw is fine. I taste a mild raisin flavor. The cigar has a strong barnyard and straw smell.
101016ligaprivada9oscurotorpedo2
I taste a full coffee flavor with some wood and after a quarter of an inch the coffee makes place for leather. After a third I taste a nice mixture of cedar and leather. The cedar becomes the dominant flavor and the leather becomes more of an aftertaste. Again this cigar reminds me of a tweaked Opus X, same sort of cedar flavor but less complex. The feeling in my mouth is dry.
101016ligaprivada9oscurotorpedo3
A little past halfway I also taste a mild walnut flavor and the cigar becomes a bit creamy. After two thirds the cedar becomes a bit sweet.
101016ligaprivada9oscurotorpedo4
This cigar lasted me for an hour and forty-five minutes. The draw was fine, just like the burn. The ash is very light, almost white of color and firm. I got plenty of smoke. This cigar is both full in flavor and full in body.
101016ligaprivada9oscurotorpedo5
Would I buy this cigar again? Without a doubt!
