Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo peligroso

About a month or two ago two of the Joya de Nicaragua lines were added to the portfolio of the Dutch distributer. He chose the Joya de Nicaragua clasico claro and the Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo cigars to be added and I reviewed them all, except for the Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo Peligroso and so here it is.

This 5×45 cellophane wrapped cigar has a price tag of 4 euro. The cigar has a dark wrapper which is oily and shiny. It has some veins and looks tough. The bands are fantastic and I smell some straw and a barnyard. The construction feels good and the predraw is fine. I taste tobacco, herbs and raisins. I dry boxed the cigar to prevent burn issues like I had with the other Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo cigars.

I taste a sweet soil flavor with a mild spiciness. After a quarter of an inch I also taste some citrus in the aftertaste and that citrus flavor is slowly growing stronger. After an inch the sweetness disappears and I taste that earthy flavor with wood and a splash of citrus.

The earth flavor grows in strength and halfway I taste some white pepper too, with the same amount of citrus as before. After two thirds the cigar gets spicy with more pepper and more herbs.

This cigar lasted me for ninety minutes. The draw was great and I got a lot of smoke. The dark ash is quite firm. This cigar has a beautiful burn, the flavors and the body are both full.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes I will.

Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo la nivelador

Recently four vitolas of the Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo became available on the Dutch market and I got all four of them to try. The 6×52 La Nivelador is the third of the series that I smoked, I liked one and hated the other, so I wonder if this La Nivelador is any good. The cigar has a price tag of € 5,50 here.

The beautiful dark and oily wrapper with a few thin veins and the bands are fantastic. The flat head is ideal to punch. I smell a strong barnyard smell. The construction is good, the predraw is fine and I taste a strong tobacco flavour.
111002joyadenicaraguadarknivelador2
I taste a strong and full earthy flavour with a little bit of citrus. After an inch I taste earthy flavours with wood and some time later a little bit of sugar. After a third I taste herbs with the earthy flavours and a little bit of pepper.
111002joyadenicaraguadarknivelador3
After two thirds I taste that earthy flavour with some herbs and a little bit of nuts. The herbs are growing stronger.
111002joyadenicaraguadarknivelador4
This cigar lasted me two hours and twenty minutes. The draw is good, the smoke is good too but could be thicker. The light coloured and frayed ash is firm. The burn is ok. This cigar is full flavoured and full bodied, but my thoughts on this cigar is the same as the original Cain releases: build for power and not for flavour.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, I only liked one of the three Antano dark corojo so far.

Joya de Nicaragua antano dark corojo la pesadilla

Another new addition to the Dutch market, this Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo La Pesadilla. The 4¾x60 belicoso has a price tag of 6 euro. The Antano dark corojo is the follow up from the Antano 1970 series that are renowned all over the world because of their full flavour and strength.

The shape of the cigar is great and the wrapper is beautiful, dark and oily with a pretty double band. The construction feels good and the cigar has a strong straw smell. Even though it is a belicoso, the top is flat and so I can punch it. The predraw is tight and even though I have not lit the cigar it tastes strong.
110916joyadenicaraguaantanodarkcorojopesadilla2
I taste a full earthy flavour, quite strong. The balance is missing, this is sheer power and in the first half inch there is no change in flavour at all. After an inch the flavour gets sticky and mild creamy, but it’s still just that earthy flavour.
110916joyadenicaraguaantanodarkcorojopesadilla3
Halfway I also get some herbs and a hint of leather. After two thirds I taste leather, wood, earth and some herbs.
110916joyadenicaraguaantanodarkcorojopesadilla4
How long the smoke time of this cigar is I don’t know. I know I put it away after three hours, but it wasn’t three hours of smoking as the cigar kept on dying on me. The burn is frayed too. After I drilled a smoke channel in the cigar the smoke and burn get a little better but they both remain poor, especially the burn. The ash is silver-grey and quite firm. This cigar is full flavoured and full bodied, but also very boring.

Joya de Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo Azaroso

Like I wrote 2 days ago, Joya de Nicaragua is the oldest cigar factory in Nicaragua and about a year ago they got into bed with Drew Estate for distribution and building their portfolio. First cigar that comes from this collaboration is the Joya de Nicaragua Antano dark corojo, which should be an extra strong cigar to claim back the market Joya once owned, the market of the ultra strong cigars. Four cigars from the series made it to The Netherlands and the first one to be reviewed by my was de 4½x42 Azarosa which has a price tag of € 4,50.

The cigar looks great, the wrapper is very dark and the double band is very stylish. The wrapper is quite oily and has one tough vein. The construction feels a bit hard and the cigar reeks of charcoal. The predraw is great and I taste tobacco.
110829joyadarkcorojoazarosa3
I taste a peppery earthy falvor with some coffee and wood. Soon I taste a lot of herbs and a metallic flavour. After half an inch I taste earth with wood and lots of citrus.

After a third a lot of black pepper joins the flavour profile, the cigar is quite spicy with the mix of black pepper, citrus, dark wood and earth. After two thirds I taste wood with some citrus, the pepper disappeared. The cigar remains spicy in the aftertaste with some pepper and herbs.
110829joyadarkcorojoazarosa4
This cigar lasted me an hour and forty minutes. The draw was great just like the amount of thick white smoke. I had to correct the burn a few times. The ash is medium gray colored, compact and firm, it only breaks once. This cigar is definitely full flavoured and full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yeah, for a strong finish of a herf.
