Casa Magna oscuro churchill gordo

The Casa Magna Oscuro Churchill gordo is the biggest cigar out of the Casa Magna Oscuro line with it’s 6 ⅝x56 size. It recently became available in The Netherlands and here’s the review.
110708casamagnaoscurochurchillgordo1
The wrapper is dark and shiny with lots of oil and a few small veins. The cigar feels silky though with a hard construction. The smell is mild peppery. the predraw is a bit hard and I taste spicy tobacco.
110708casamagnaoscurochurchillgordo2
I taste coffee with a little bit of sugar. After half an inch I also get some spicy herbs. After an inch I taste pepper, herbs and straw with a mild sweetness. After a third the flavors are sweet herbs with some toast on the background.
110708casamagnaoscurochurchillgordo3
Halfway I taste some sweet wood with spicy and peppery herbs on the background. After two thirds I taste an earthy flavor and near the end I taste pepper again, green pepper with that earthy flavor.
110708casamagnaoscurochurchillgordo4
This cigar lasted me for two hours and ten minutes. The draw is a bit tight, with a lot of medium thick smoke. The pepper and salt colored ash is coarse and firm. The burn is great. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? No, I didn’t care for it at all

Casa Magna oscuro toro

I did a few reviews on several Casa Magna oscuro cigars the last few days, so there’s not much more to tell, I guess I wrote everything I know about the Placensia & Quesada made cigars in the previous reviews. Only thing I can tell you about this 6×52 toro is the price, which is € 4.50 here in The Netherlands.
110628casamagnaoscurotoro1
The looks are great, the black wrapper and the silver band are a perfect match. The wrapper looks quite dry, not dry as in ‘not moist’ but dry in ‘not oily’ and has a few veins. I smell a barnyard. The construction feels quite hard. The predraw is fine and I taste spicy tobacco.
110628casamagnaoscurotoro2
Coffee with an earthy flavor is the first thing I taste. I also get some wood and straw. After half an inch I taste leather with earth and straw. The cigar is quite spicy. After a third I taste dry leather with a mild metallic flavor.
110628casamagnaoscurotoro3
Halfway I mainly taste straw with some leather, herbs and that strange but pleasant metallic flavor. The straw slowly morphs into hay. Near the end I taste more herbs, the cigar gets more spicy and I get quite a lot of black pepper.
110628casamagnaoscurotoro4
This cigar lasted me an hour and fifty minutes. The draw is great and I got a lot of smoke. The ash is white. The burn is great. The ash is coarse but firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? Again, I prefer the belicoso

Casa Magna oscuro belicoso

I smoked quite a few Casa Magna Colorado cigars from Nicaragua and love them, especially for the price but recently the Casa Magna Oscuro series got released here in The Netherlands. And again, the prices are very budget friendly, this 6½x52 torpedo has a € 4,50 price tag (compare that to a Montecristo #2, same size, price tag € 12,50), so you can guess that I’m very pleased with this release and can’t wait to smoke all vitolas in the Casa Magna Oscuro series. Even though it’s the same brand as the Colorado series, the Oscuro serie is made in Honduras instead of Nicaragua.
110610casamagnaoscurobelicoso1
The construction feels good and I smell a strong barnyard smell. The silver band looks great on the dark wrapper which has a few long thin veins. The predraw is fine and I taste a little bit of pepper.
110610casamagnaoscurobelicoso2
I taste a dry and mild sweet herbal flavor with wood and a splash of chocolate in the aftertaste. The flavors are full but smooth. After three quarters of an inch I taste some wood with some sweetness and some pepper in the aftertaste. The pepper isn’t overpowering and the wood slowly grows in strength.
110610casamagnaoscurobelicoso3
After a third I taste some dry wood with some sweetness. The wood slowly morphs into a cedar flavor. After two thirds the pepper disappears, the wood is mild sweet and I taste herbs on the background.
110610casamagnaoscurobelicoso4
This cigar lasted me for an hour and twenty minutes. The draw is great and I got a lot of thick smoke. The ash is light colored and firm. The cigar is full flavored, full but smooth and medium to full bodied. The burn is flawless.

Would I buy this cigar again? Without a doubt

Casa Magna colorado salomon

This 6½x56 Casa Magna Colorado salomon is the latest addition to the Casa Magna Colorado series. It is not available in The Netherlands yet, but I expect that that will change soon enough so all my fellow countrymen can smoke this beautiful shaped cigar.
110525casamagnacoloradosalomones1
Like I said, the cigar is beautifully shaped. but the dark and oily wrapper does have some veins. I smell a mild barnyard. The construction feels good. The predraw is fine and I taste raisin with a white pepper aftertaste.
110525casamagnacoloradosalomones2
I taste an earthy flavor with some wood, herbs and a peppery aftertaste. The feeling in my mouth is dry. After a quarter of an inch I taste wood and herbs with a little bit of sigar. After half an inch I also taste some chocolate on the background. The cigar slowly becomes peppery.

After an inch I taste leather and earth with some wood and herbs. The aftertaste is peppery. Some puffs later I mainly taste wood with some chocolate and herbs. The aftertaste is still peppery. Halfway I taste wood, nutmeg, herbs and a metallic flavor, all very nice. After two thirds I taste wood with herbs, the herbs are mild fresh and I get pepper in the aftertaste.
110525casamagnacoloradosalomones4
This cigar lasted me an hour and forty-five minutes. The draw is great and the burn is ok. The smoke starts out poor but gets better along the way, slowly it gets thick and white. The peper and salt colored ash is firm. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied.
110525casamagnacoloradosalomones5
Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, I liked it.

Casa Magna oscuro robusto

The Honduran made Nicaraguan puro young brother of the 2008 cigar of the year is finally available in The Netherlands and for a very budget friendly price I might say. These 5×54 robusto has a price tag of only € 4.00 here, which is good. The cigar gets his name from the Cuban seed Nicaraguan oscuro wrapper.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto1
The wrapper is oily and almost black with just one thin vein. The silver band and the black wrapper give a nice contrast. The construction feels good and I smell a mixture of chocolate and a barnyard. The predraw is fine and I taste peppery tobacco.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto2
I taste a lot of white pepper with some soil. Soon I also taste chocolate and wood. After three quarters of an inch I get a lot more pepper and some herbs. Halfway some leather shows up with wood and pepper. The pepper is overpowering the other flavors.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto3
Soon after a lot of herbs join the pepper, the leather and the wood. After two thirds the pepper gets even stronger and it is close to being too strong. The cigar gets really spicy.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto4
This cigar lasted me an hour and twenty-five minutes. I got a lot of white smoke, and the smoke is thick too. The draw is great. I had to correct the burn a few times. The pepper and salt colored ash is coarse but firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Casa Magna Colorado extraordinairio

I smoked quite a few Casa Magna recently, like thetorito, the pikito, the oscuro robusto and some time ago the 2008 cigar of the year, the robusto. Now I reviewed the latest Casa Magna to arrive in The Netherlands, the Colorado Extraordinario, a 7⅝x58 figurado which has a 6 euro price tag in The Netherlands.
110103casamagnacoloradoextraordinario1
The cigar has a medium dark, oily and shiny wrapper with some veins. The construction feels good and I smell a strong barnyard smell. The predraw is fine and mild spicy.
110103casamagnacoloradoextraordinario2
I taste a lot of pepper and wood with a tiny bit of coffee and a hint of dark chocolate. The flavors are dry and the combination is a bit weird but nice. The aftertaste is full of herbal flavors and pepper with some dark chocolate.
110103casamagnacoloradoextraordinario3
After a third I taste some coffee and earthy flavors with herbs and again, dark chocolate. Halfway I taste cedar and chocolate with herbs. The cigar slowly gains some strength. After two thirds I taste herbs, quite spicy and some pepper.
110103casamagnacoloradoextraordinario4
This cigar lasted me for two hours. The draw is great and I got a lot of smoke. I had to correct the burn a few times though in the beginning. The pepper and salt colored ash is firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.

Casa Magna Colorado torito

The Casa Magna Colorado is a new cigar on the Dutch market and available in several sizes, including this Torito, a 4¾x60 fatty. I smoked the robusto a few months ago thanks to an American friend and the pikito about a week ago and I liked both.
101222casamagnacoloradotorito1
As I already said, this is a short and fat smoke, a bit like Danny DeVito but less annoying. The dark wrapper is shiny and oily with a lot of small veins. The band is nice. The cigar doesn’t have a strong odor, I smell a little bit of wood. The construction feels good. The predraw is fine and I taste wood and raisin.
101222casamagnacoloradotorito2
I taste a lot of herbs with some wood and a sweetness. The flavors are creamy and the sweetness disappears. After half an inch I also taste some nuts and chocolate. After an inch I get more wood and chocolate and close the middle of the cigar I get a dark chocolate flavor.
101222casamagnacoloradotorito3
After the middle I don’t taste herbs anymore except in the aftertaste. Wood and chocolate are the main flavors. After two thirds I taste nuts with a hint of chocolate but the chocolate disappears. I am left with nuts and herbs.
101222casamagnacoloradotorito4
This cigar lasted me for two hours and I got a lot of smoke that was a bit thin, but not too thin. The construction is wonderful as the light colored ash is mega firm, it didn’t break at all. I had to correct the burn a few times. This cigar is full flavored and medium to full bodied.

Would I buy this cigar again? I liked the Pikito better

Casa Magna Colorado pikito

Casa Magna is a collaboration of Nestor Plascencia and Manuel Quesada and the brand caused quite some stir when they were named Cigar of the year by Cigar Aficionado in 2008. The pikito is a petit corona, 4¾x42, and that is not a size I smoke regularly but with a € 3.00 price tag I couldn’t resist. The cigar is made from Nicaraguan tobacco with a rare Cuban seed ligero wrapper.
101211casamagnacoloradopikito1
I like the band, it goes great with the dark, oily and shiny, veinless, wrapper. The cigar has a strong barnyard smell. The construction feels good and the predraw is fine. The predraw leaves a wood and straw flavor in my mouth.
101211casamagnacoloradopikito2
I taste a full, spicy and peppery earth flavor with a mild sweet wood flavor on the background. The cigar is really spicy and the background flavors transform into chocolate and wood. After half an inch the cigar gets sweeter and I taste the pepper in the back of my throat. I also taste a hint of nuts. The sweetness turns into chocolate.
101211casamagnacoloradopikito3
The pepper fades a bit, but not completely. The cigar is mild sweet with wood and some pepper in the aftertaste. After two thirds I get more sweetness with some wood and earth, it is a strange mix of flavors but well balanced. I also get a unique chocolate flavor as a support.
101211casamagnacoloradopikito4
This small cigar has a smoke time of seventy five minutes. I got a lot of thick white smoke. The draw is great, but like the burn. The pepper and salt colored ash is firm. This cigar is full flavored and full bodied.
101211casamagnacoloradopikito5
Would I buy this cigar again? I don’t see why not.

Casa Magna oscuro robusto

Casa Magna became Cigar Aficionado’s cigar of the year 2008 and that caused quite a stir amongst cigar lovers worldwide. Not a lot of people understood why Cigar Aficionado rated this cigar so high, and I must admit, I am one of those people. I smoked the Casa Magna robusto before and even though I liked it, I didn’t think it was deserving of the title “cigar of the year”. Well, Manuel Quesada and Nestor Plascencia decided to use the same blend with an oscuro wrapper instead of a colorado wrapper and release it under the name Casa Magna Oscuro. This 5×52 cigar was bombed to me by an American friend.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto1
The cigar looks great with the nice silver version of the normal Casa Magna band. The deep dark and oily wrapper only has one vein. The aroma is light but rich and reminds me of a barnyard. The construction feels tight, but equally tight everywhere, I can’t find soft spots. The wrapper is quite thick, that makes the cigar hard to punch. The predraw is good and leaves a mild raisin flavor on my palate.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto2
I taste a medium full earth flavor which has a warm and comfortable feel to it. I also taste a mild dark chocolate aftertaste. The flavors are subtle and dry. The flavors slowly gain some strength and less subtle. After an inch the chocolate disappears and instead I taste some herbs, also dry in texture.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto3
Halfway the dark chocolate returns and is clearly noticeable. At ⅔ I taste wood, earth and herbs, still dry in texture. The herbs become the main flavor.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto4
Even though this cigar is just 5 inch, I puffed on it for two hours and fifteen minutes. The cigar produces a lot of smoke which is quite thick. The draw is fine and the pepper and salt colored ash is firm. The burn was good too. This cigar is full bodied and full flavored.
110508casamagnaoscurorobusto5
Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, I liked it, just like the normal Casa Magna

Casa Magna robusto

Cigar Aficionado’s cigar of the year 2008. In a big fat 5 1/2 x 52 robusto version. Made by Nestor Plasensia & Manuel Quesada in Plasencia’s Segovia factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. The binder and filler are Nicaraguan tobacco with a Colorado wrapper. I got this cigar in a bomb from Joetownhound.
100311casamagnarobusto1
The wrapper is nice, dark & oily with just a few minor veins. The construction feels good and the band is quite nice. The cigar has a nice barnyard aroma. The predraw is fine and releases some pepper.
100311casamagnarobusto2
I can taste a nice spicy coffee, lots of flavor, and soon a sour taste for a brief moment. The coffee slowly turns into wood and remains spicy. The flavors is a bit less then at the beginning.
100311casamagnarobusto3
After an inch I can taste some dry leather with some wood. Halfway I discover a chocolate aftertaste and the leather is gone. The chocolate disappears too and all I can taste is the spicy, peppery wood flavor. At the 2/3r mark chocolate makes a comeback but disappears just as quick. Near the end the cigar gets stronger.
100311casamagnarobusto4
I get a decent amount of smoke. The draw is fine, but the burn is a little crooked. The ash is very light colored and pretty firm. I liked this cigar, it’s more than decent, but cigar of the year? I don’t think so
100311casamagnarobusto5
Would I buy this cigar again? Yeah, I wouldn’t mind smoking it again, but it depends on the price.
